Outline

The Group is dedicated to advancing the terahertz sources and novel detection uniquely developed at RIKEN, while establishing fundamental technologies that underpin terahertz science. By fostering a close and strategic integration of these core technologies with exploratory research, we aim to open new scientific frontiers centered on terahertz science.
Our research encompasses the development of high-power, ultra-broadband, frequency-tunable parametric sources, ultra-high-sensitivity terahertz detection, frequency-stabilized terahertz sources, and quantum light sources. At the same time, we pursue fundamental studies that are difficult to access with conventional measurement techniques, including investigations of low-excitation states in molecules, coherent control of quantum states in matter, and the development of novel quantum spectroscopic methods. We also explore emerging directions such as non-destructive diagnostics of internal structures in materials including plastics, rubber, and pharmaceuticals.
