Terahertz Science Research Group
Outline
The Terahertz Photonics Research Group advances quantum electronics and photonics in the terahertz and infrared regions, with a view toward applications in next-generation IoT, information and communications technology, precision measurement, materials science, and life science. Terahertz waves occupy the frequency region between radio waves and light, and provide a powerful means of for investigating low-frequency dynamics in matter, molecular vibrations, and the responses of semiconductors and other quantum materials. Our group is enhancing its original terahertz-wave sources and detection technologies, while also advancing research on quantum light sources, quantum sensing, ultra-precision spectroscopy, high-sensitivity imaging, and devices integrating photonics and electronics. We also seek to open up new directions in terahertz science and technology through high-precision light-source technologies, precision spectroscopy of molecular rotational states, and spectroscopy using quantum entanglement.
