Outline
Terahertz wave has advantages in non-destructive imaging by using its transparency to many soft materials as well as in sensing of intermolecular interactions and molecular higher-order conformations by using their absorption spectral features. RIKEN has extensively promoted terahertz research and development such as widely frequency-tunable parametric compact sources, quantum cascade lasers, extremely high-sensitivity detectors, and their applications. Through this project, we aim to develop this field by the establishment of basic techniques for generating and detecting terahertz waves and by the development of practical technology for their use.
